I now have a nice set of U.S. made reproduction top bows for my CJ3A. Right now they are bare steel. My question is: Were the original CJ3A top bows painted, clear coated, or bare steel?
I helped Bob Boxley with his top installation down in NC. He had his bows powder coated black and they look real nice. I want to consider my options since I am worried about the rust gremlins here in Pennsylvania!
Sorry guys, I've been unplugged for a few days. The wife and I were working at the 13th Annual PA Jeeps All Breeds Jeep Show in York, PA. We took the CJ3A and the Rubicon and camped there.
Anyway, I got my top bows from Beachwood Canvas. The appear to be very well made and I confirmed that they are made here in the USA. They are bare steel. I will take photos when I get a chance and post them up here (before they are painted).
I guess I will just use black rustoleum since that is easy to touch up!
Beachwood is making me a canvas summer top too! I don't plan on doing much winter driving or driving in rain, so I am not going to bother with side curtains or doors. The summer top will give my bald head some shade and protect me from the occasional downpour!
Chasm, Sounds nice. I will have to save up for a top in the future. They sure are a nice finishing touch to any willys. I am still waiting on my rebuilt wo carter carb which is supposed to arrive any day. Then, if my motor runs well, I should have my jeep "finished" in a couple of weeks. I hope this economy starts to turn around, it is starting to cut into my jeep building funds.
I drove back from the PA Jeeps Show yesterday evening and was wishing I had the canvas top big time! I drove 30 miles with my eyes to the west watching big black storm clouds roll my way! I made it into my garage just moments before the sky opened up!
