 New project to share

So this is my first post, so please forgive any problems with the photos. I wanted to share my new project with all of you. I have been reading your posts for a while and your information has given me the confidence to go ahead with buying my '51 3a. I got it from a friend of a friend for a very good price. It had been garaged for the last 6 1/2 years and ran when it went in there. The seller told me that there were a bunch of extra parts that his dad had purchased since they used to keep it up at there cabin, away from any parts stores. When I got it home I found out that those parts included a hard top, brand new Carter Carberator, fuel pump, muffler, numerous filters, brake pads @ springs, and many hoses. A true score for me. The Engine has several layers of dust on it but is otherwise clean. The body has some light surface rust that I don't thing will take too much to repair. All in all I have what I think is the making of a great project and a fun time for many years ahead. I am sure I will be asking lots of questions as I start digging into old "Sarge."

Bob, my VIN is 451-GBI 12533, and the engine number as best as I can tell through the red paint is 3 J 64 B 65. If that is not correct, let me know and I will try to clean away some more layers for you.

Nice original CJ-3A! Thanks for posting photos. The engine serial number looks to be original for the Jeep. That "B" in the serial number should be a digit, perhaps it is an 8?

Question. Why do the heater hoses go to the drivers side? What type of heater is in it?

The radiator hoses go to a small heater that was mounted under the dash by the clutch pedal. I looked it up and found that it was an option in the 2As and some early 3As before the Harrison heater became the more popular option. This one was added aftermarket based on how sloppy the holes were cut out of the dash. It basically works like a radiator with a small fan attached that draws the hot water through it and blows it onto your feet.

Welcome to the CJ-3A page!! Looks like you have yourself a great project. You're lucky to have found this eager bunch (the 3A members) early in your project. My project was nearly finished before I found the 3A page.

Lots of great expertise here.

Hope you'll share your questions, problems, and accomplishments here (pics too).

Here's a pic of a CJ3A heater installed.
